Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Bills Edition

AndreJohnson

The Houston Texans hosted Mario Williams and the Buffalo Bills at Reliant Stadium in what was called “Judgment Day” by Williams himself. Williams’ game was nothing to ride home about.  He lit up the stat sheet with five tackles, two assists, and one sack. He had his best game of the season for his new team against the Texans. Williams wasn’t impactful and Houston moved the ball on the ground and in the air and there was nothing Williams could do about it.   FINAL SCORE: Texans 21 Bills 9   TEXANS REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 7-1 TEXANS DIVISIONAL RECORD: 2-0…

Super Mario Mouth

Look, we have been trying to be reasonable about this business separation between the Houston Texans and former defensive standout and #1 overall pick, Mario Williams. As we previously talked about a LONG TIME AGO, the idea of the Texans letting Williams walk was a bullet the organization had to bite. Now that he has taken his talents to the Buffalo Toronto Bills (* see note), everything was just fine and it was accepted by the majority of Texans fans that this relationship has come to an end. Fast forward to Williams calling November 4th on Twitter, “Judgment Day”, the day the Bills visit Reliant in…

The Productivity of the Texans’ 2011 Pass Rush

IMG_1114

Last year the Houston Texans had their best defensive season in team history. Much of that success was due to Wade Phillips’ new 3-4 scheme and their relentless pass rush off of the edge, and the Texans set a team record with 44 sacks. A closer look into the numbers explains which pass rushers had the greatest impact on the Texans success. The website Pro Football Focus (PFF) uses a stat called Pass Rushing Productivity (PRP) that measures how much heat a player puts on the quarterback per snap. It takes into account sacks and the numbers of hits and…

Conspiracy Theory: Linebackers

Barwin

In this series we look at the moves the Houston Texans have made since the free agency period and during the draft and let you know what is “really” going on at Reliant and with the team in 2012.     We all know that in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 system that they require a lot of linebackers, but with the recent increase in outside linebackers being added in the last couple of years indicates that the Texans are preparing for more losses at that position. With the current cap situation the Texans could be bracing for the loss of Connor…

Judgement Day, Really?

Mario Tweet

This is in no way attacking the Buffalo Bills’ organization. -PDS   This is a letter from me to Mario Williams.     “Judgement Day November 4th!” Mario Williams, Defensive End, Buffalo Bills via Twitter   Dear Mario, Look I am really confused on why all of this “talk” is coming from your twitter account all of a sudden about the team that took a chance on you, the Houston Texans. Don’t blame it on a friend or relative tweeting out all this non-sense on your account, be real here. I want to know what the Texans and the fan base have done to…

Mario Sends Message to Fans

mariowiliamsbills

Yesterday after Mario Williams signed his blockbuster deal with the Buffalo Bills, Williams sent a message through his twitter account to the Houston Texans organization and their fans:   Via Mario Williams twitter account @bbwolf90   Thanks to all the real Texan fans out there. It has been a great ride for six years and I wish the team the very best. Much love to the players, coaches and staff. It is unfortunate to have to leave such a great place due to salary cap constraints and other intentions. It is very fortunate to have the memories, sweat, blood and tears with…
