Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

Early Off Season Facts and Myths for the Texans

DerekNewton

Here are some quick thoughts of this upcoming season, and we mean early thoughts on the Houston Texans.   Facts -T.J. Yates will have competition in camp this year pushing him to see if he could be the quarterback of this team. Yates will be on alert during draft time with rumors flying the Texans could be looking for a young quarterback to groom, if the opportunity presents itself. – Andre Johnson will finally get help and the wide receiver group will have a slight face lift going into the 2013 season, with the chance of three new wide receivers on the opening…

The Most Disappointing Texans of 2012

LestarJean

With high hopes and expectations, the Houston Texans looked primed for a run to the Super Bowl before the season started. As we know, the road ended before we knew it and then came the evaluation period to see what exactly went wrong. Call it scheme, coaching or just general play of players, it was an upsetting end to a promising season. We looked at the most disappointing Texans of the 2012 season, and here is the short list.   Ben Tate After a 942 yard 2011 season, Ben Tate rushed for 279 yards in 2012 and was relegated to…

Digging Deep: Cincinnati Edition

Digging-Deep-(1)

The Texans won their second consecutive playoff game and snapped their two game losing streak with their 19-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. The defense played lights out, while the offense moved the ball but struggled in the red zone. This win earns the Texans a ticket to play the New England Patriots and hopefully avenge the beatdown the Patriots laid on them in Week 14. Positives: 222 The difference between the Texans’ and Bengals’ total yards. The Texans had more than twice as many total yards as the Bengals. The Texans had 420 total yards while holding…

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Playoff Edition

ArianFoster2

Playoff time has arrived and the Houston Texans hosted the Cincinnati Bengals for the second time in the opening round of the playoffs. A lot of skepticism surrounded this game, especially with the poor play of the Texans at the latter end of the season. The major question concerning the Texans going into the playoffs was could they flip the switch and catch the fire they had at the beginning of the season. Here’s the breakdown:   FINAL SCORE: Texans 19 Bengals 13   TEXANS PLAYOFF RECORD: 1-0 TEXANS PLAYOFF SEATING: 3RD TEXANS FIRST OPPONENT: CINNCINATI BENGALS TEXANS NEXT OPPONENT:  NEW ENGLAND…

Wildcard weekend. Texans fans know we “shouldn’t” be here. We were “supposed” to be the 1-seed in the AFC. And yet, after a 1-3 final quarter of the season, here we are, facing the Bengals in the same weekend as last year. Same Bengals, same Texans, but different. This Bengals defense is bigger and badder in every way. This Texans defense is more decimated. Andy Dalton is surprising many of us. So is Matt Schaub but in a totally opposite manner. Both teams have questionable running attacks which is odd to say with Arian Foster and BenJarvus Green-Ellis in their…

The Good, The Bad, and The Exposed: Colts Edition 2

MattSchaub

It seems nothing has been going right for the Houston Texans, and to make matters worse the playoffs start on Saturday. The Texans have had ample opportunities to right the ship, but due to lack of focus, discipline, and bad execution the Texans have been their own worst enemy. Gary Kubiak has his hands full going into the postseason, and the Bengals who are hot are coming back to Reliant for revenge of last year’s defeat at the hands of the Texans.   FINAL SCORE: Texans 16 Colts 28   TEXANS REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 12-4 TEXANS DIVISIONAL RECORD: 5-1 TEXANS…

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Vikings Edition

BrooksReed

It’s getting closer to the post season and the Houston Texans have not shown the same explosiveness on offense that they have in the first quarter of the season. The Texans hosted the Vikings at Reliant Stadium and were very gracious hosts as they allowed the Vikings to put their feet up on the table and make themselves at home. The game never seemed out of control or out of hand, but the Texans could not capitalize on their offensive possessions.   FINAL SCORE: Texans 6 Vikings 23   TEXANS REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 12-3 TEXANS DIVISIONAL RECORD: 5-0 TEXANS AFC…

Here we are, week 16, the final 2012 game against an AFC North foe (unless… Super Bowl, anyone?) This time, the Houston Texans face the Adrian Peterson led Minnesota Vikings for a Sunday noon game at Reliant. The Vikings are not entirely unknown to the Texans as the interconference opponents met in the final week of the preseason. Of course that was a long time and many injuries ago – and before a couple of each team’s players emerged as potential NFL MVP candidates. Where’s the fun in this particular game? Only watching Adrian Peterson grind it out in attempt…

Texans to Watch: Colts Edition

Antonio Smith and the secondary

The 11-2 Texans look to rebound from the Monday night debacle by corralling the AFC South second place Colts.  The 9-4 Colts are led by Houston native and former number one pick quarterback Andrew Luck as well as the emotional spirit of first year head coach Chuck Pagano, who is still recovering from cancer treatment.  Although the sky is falling for some fans outside Reliant Stadium after last week, this game is for the AFC South Championship – if the Texans win, they win the South Division and control their own path.  Time to refocus on what is most important….
