Quick Look: Texans 2013 Free Agents

Glover Quina nd Brice McCain

It’s that time of year to close the books on the 2012 season and start looking at the 2013 Houston Texans and the first order of business is their own free agents. With 21 potential free agents on the horizon, there are no real Big Money players but there are one or two current players, in our estimation, that are a necessity to keep in Houston. We take a quick look at the free agents on the current roster and give our quick looks at each one.   Free agency begins on March 12, the first day of the new League Year….

Darryl Sharpton Lands on I.R.

Darryl-Sharpton

According to multiple reports,   Texans placing ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip) on IR and re-signing Mister Alexander to replace him. Sharpton loss a blow to run defense. — John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) January 1, 2013 With Sharpton landing on the injured reserve the Texans have brought back second year inside linebacker Mister Alexander. Darryl Sharpton was injured last season when he had a quadricep injury that landed him on injured reserve, and was out majority of training camp and the 2012 season rehabbing his injury. Sharpton provided some much-needed depth for a depleted inside linebacking group and played well in run…

Bradie James is M.I.A.

BradieJames

The Houston Texans worked out several defensive linemen today, as reported by Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson. This is a standard practice for the Texans each week to see if any street free agents have the ability to come in and possibly compete for a roster spot or replace a player in the event of an injury. The Texans brought in defensive linemen Remi Ayodele, Brandon Bair, Corbin Bryant, Daniel Muir, Jay Richardson and Clifton Geathers. I wonder why the Texans didn’t consider bringing in any additional linebackers after the sad display put on by inside linebacker Bradie James? James played…

The Rundown: Texans vs. Vikings

Reliant at Practice

Here are a few notes from tonights game against the Minnesota Vikings:   – D.J. Bryant  has stated a case to make the Texans as a practice squad player. He was active in pass rush and in run game defense. He has shown flashes of his pass rush capability throughout the season. – DeVier Posey was better late than never with his first catch of his NFL career. He caught the ball, took a hit and showed his speed for an 80 yard touchdown. He showed some big play capability which is exactly why the Texans drafted him. – Quarterback…

Texans: Back Burner Issues

RandyBullock

Houston Texans’ fans were concerned with two big situations when first coming into camp, the wide receiver situation and the right side of the offensive line. Now heading past the halfway point of the preseason, the recent play of young wide receivers Keshawn Martin and Lestar Jean has calmed the wide receiver worries a bit. As for the right side of the offensive line, it looks like Antoine Caldwell has the right guard position under control while the right tackle position is still being sorted out between Derek Newton and Rashad Butler. If you have been keeping up with the Texans, you have been paying attention to those story lines and know what is…

Training Camp: 3 Days until Showtime

Football

Out at training camp today, at the half way point of “game week”, the Houston Texans were working hard despite the rising temperature as practice continued. Plenty of small notes to pass around today from camp.         Inside Linebacker Concern Today with Keyaron Fox going down with a “significant” knee injury, Brian Cushing spending the night in the hospital with a virus, and rookie Shawn Loiseau fighting a groin issue, the Texans were down to three able bodies with Bradie James, Mister Alexander and Tim Dobbins.  It would be a safe bet to say the Texans will be working the free agent market today looking to add to the…

Early Risers at Texans Camp

DerrellSmith

The second week of training camp is underway and with the majority of the team at full strength, the Houston Texans have a competitive roster out on the field right now. It has been a sight to see the work these players have put in on the field. With the majority of the team already set, there are a handful of positions that are open for the taking. There have been plenty of bright spots for the Texans in camp and we are going to give you who we have seen as the “Early Risers” of training camp heading into…

Texans Training Camp: Another Scare

Keshawn-Martin

Full pads were on for the 6th day of camp and the Houston Texans did receive a scare to one of their star players.     - Duane Brown, starting left tackle, got kicked on his left ankle when he got rolled up from behind. Brown played two plays after the incident but couldn’t continue. After evaluation they shut him down for the day and he headed in for an MRI. The MRI came back negative and was only deemed a bone bruise. He has been listed as day-to-day. Rashad Butler will fill in at the left tackle position until Brown comes back….

Training Camp: No Need to Panic

Andre

With Day Two morning session in the books, there was plenty of news out of Houston Texans camp, both good and bad. Here are some day 2 notes:     – Wide receiver Andre Johnson was the headline of the day due to a “tweaked” groin, and being witness to it I can see where the concern would come from. We were about 10 yards from where he was trying to get stretched out by the trainers, to get going again for 1-on-1 drills with the defensive backs. Headed under the tent to see the head trainer, they ran a battery of tests on…

Texans that are on the Fringe

Sherrick McManis

With training camp closing in, the Houston Texans will be faced with some tough decisions with their roster heading into week 1. I know this may be premature talk but the reality has to set in, NFL teams are always looking for the younger and cheaper options for their teams. Last season, the Texans were able to have rookies, both drafted and undrafted, make an impact on the season and fill in when necessary. Throw in some key in-season signings, the Texans were able to weather the storm when it came to injuries. This season the Texans have already lost 19 players from their 2011 team,…
