Texans Sign Shayne Graham

Shayne Graham

Late Monday afternoon the Houston Texans have announced they have signed 11 year veteran kicker Shayne Graham to a deal for the 2012 season. Graham will be brought in to compete with rookie draft pick Randy Bullock during camp, and be the exciting kicking competition that the organization wanted heading into the season. Graham has kicked for the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens in his 11 year NFL career. The 34-year-old Graham has hit over 85% of his field goal attempts during his career and only missed 5 extra points in…

Texans Should Inquire about McCoy

Colt McCoy

The Houston Texans have done a great job the past few seasons of creating depth to a roster compared to previous seasons they have never had. Look no further than the 2011 season where injuries plagued a Texans team, but the “Next Man Up” mantra seemed to show up week after week.  The Texans should not stop looking for depth and start by kicking the tires on Cleveland Browns ex-starting quarterback Colt McCoy, and this has zero to do with him be a University of Texas alumni or anything else related with the state of Texas. This has to do with a…

The Night Rider: An Interview with Rennie Moore

rennie moore2

”I am thankful that the coaches saw the football player in me and I’m ready to battle for the Texans.”   Rennie Moore, Defensive End, Houston Texans, Clemson     It is not often when everything comes together last minute but for Clemson Tiger, Rennie Moore, that was the case. Moore is the definition of hard work that paid off and after an impressive senior season at Death Valley, the Houston Texans came knocking on his door. At 6-3 245 lbs., the former defensive end will be lining up in the same position for the Texans when camp starts, and trust me Moore is more…

Luv Ya Steel Blue: Big Boy Edition

BigBoyEdittio

On this very special edition of Luy Ya Steel Blue the fellas Mike, Aaron and Pat bring in TXCleaver to discuss the Houston Texans NFL Draft. The guys are excited about what the Texans did on draft day. The topics include the draft, the undrafted free agents and the release of Jacoby Jones. With just good news floating around in Texans land, the organization might be headed into even better times. Sit back, relax and listen to the guys melt your brain cells with useless information.   Once again thanks for listening and you can look for us on iTunes.  …

Texans Release Jacoby Jones

JacobyJones

According to Houston Fox Sports news reporter, Mark Berman, the Houston Texans have released wide receiver Jacoby Jones. Early words are that the Texans tried to trade Jones, but had no takers. With the move, the Texans will save $2.5 million in cap space heading into the 2012 season. Jones has been highly criticized for his lack of production since coming to Houston in 2007 and after signing a new contract in 2011 with a three-year deal worth $10.5 million, $3 million of that being guaranteed. With 127 career receptions, Jones just never took off for the Texans and could not replace Kevin…

Texans Profiles: The UDFA

Houston Texans Fans

Very impressed with the Houston Texans draft class, the team did not stop after the draft getting some more work done. The Texans front office has put together what appears to be one of the more impressive undrafted rookie free agent groups we have seen in some time. The class is headlined with three players who in our estimation have real shots at making the Texans roster, and the reason why these three did not get drafted is still puzzling. Even still, this 2012 draft crop of rookies has the chance to be one of the deepest in Texans’ history. The Texans…

Rookie Contracts and the 5th Year Option

TexansGrid

A guest entry from Tom Vanderslice   Many draft analysts have used the new rookie salary scale like a hammer to convince you that Ryan Tannehill (or Blaine Gabbert, or Jake Locker) is a totally reasonable Top 10 draft pick. Setting aside my personal opinions on that particular argument, I’d like to look at one of the lesser discussed aspects of the rookie scale as it applies to first and second rounders and how that might inform us on the Texans’ strategy and options at #26.   Under the new CBA, all drafted rookies receive a 4-year deal, but contracts…

Compromising Position

The most coveted custom Texans jersey EVER!

Here’s the difficulty with my position: I have to make Texans football attractive to women, yet not repellant to men. Not a lot of stories meeting this criteria during draft season.  Here’s the compromise. I give you a girl story now, I give you draft coverage Friday and Saturday. Fair?  Essentially I am running for student council as an adult against a super cute chick several years my junior.  What could possibly go wrong? Surprisingly advancing through round 1 versus the uber-adorable Amanda (@amandalynette), then the very sexy Jayme (@lee_jayme)   – you will see I encourage your use of…

Draft Anticipation

Now that the draft is only a few days away the anticipation has mounted greatly in Houston Texans fans. I personally am extremely amped about what the Houston Texans have in store for this year’s draft, and the suspense of the event as a whole is almost unbearable. So many of us feel as though we know exactly what the Texans will pick and we know what’s best for the team. The funny thing about being a fan of your team around draft time is that we will pick a particular player at a certain position one moment and the…
