Texans OTAs: Day Three Recap

AndreJohnson

The third OTA for the Houston Texans was held before the weekend starts and there was a new life during the practice. It was another tolerable day for the practice with a nice overcast and good breeze. Here are some notes on OTAs from today:   Day Three – Inside linebacker Tim Dobbins was absent today for the third straight practice. There is plenty of chatter going on how he should be there at “voluntary” OTAs but one thing is for certain training camp is where it counts. Dobbins, a special teams captain, is catching heat for not being with his teammates. There is no…

The temperature was a little humid and the wind once again provided a nice breeze for the players. Here are some quick notes on day two.   Day Two – The Texans had two injuries with Phillip Supernaw and Sunny Harris that were labeled as foot injuries from yesterday. Neither player…

Here are some final notes on the Texans last OTA of 2012.   – Gary Kubiak was impressed with Case Keenum today. He called him “automatic” in the 2 minute drill session in practice. – John Beck and Keenum will take all of the snaps when mini-camp starts, while he rests all of the veterans during that time. The veterans will be with strength and conditioning Coach Cedric Smith while the younger group will be going through mini camp. – Kubiak called OTAs a success because the team got out of the sessions without any major injuries. – A scary moment…

Here are a few notes from Wednesday’s OTAs.   – Brian Cushing and Hebron Fangupo did not practice. The team is hoping Fangupo can return to practice next Monday. – Head Coach Gary Kubiak expects right tackle Rashad Butler to take a hold of the right tackle position despite competition from Derek Newton. Kubiak likes the fact that Butler has starter experience filling in at left tackle during the 2010 season. – Rookie guard Brandon Brooks has been working with the first team offense with Antoine Caldwell being sick the past few days. –  Gary Kubiak told the media that Matt Schaub is the starter for the…

No Puppies: Texans OTAs

Reliant

Some more notes from the first week of Texans 2012 OTAs.   – Second year cornerback Roc Carmichael feels fortunate to have sat out his first season and learn the defensive scheme, and he felt that his playing time would have been little with him behind in the learning process with the lockout last season. He also felt fortunate to use the 2011 season as a “redshirt” season to learn from Danieal Manning and Johnathan Joseph, and he feels that Dwight Jones could make the team. Jones played at North Carolina while Carmichael was at Virginia Tech and Roc called him…

Texans OTAs, The Red Herring Edition

Yates is the key to Pat's offense.

Here are some quick tidbits from Houston Texans OTAs.     – It looks like UDFA, Hebron Fangupo will not be lost for the season, and looks to be sidelined until late next week. He was rolled up on during practice and ended up with a sprained MCL. – Line Backers coach Reggie Herring had some choice words about  the loss of DeMeco Ryans and the addition of Bradie James.  “I don’t mind throwing it on the table, we’re pretty pleased with picking Bradie (James) up, because we feel like we gained back what we lost with DeMeco leaving, and…
