Moves That Hurt the Texans in 2012
Hindsight is 20-20 and for the Houston Texans the 2012 cap situation put the team in some bad spots, and forced their hand to make some moves. We understand in a perfect world you want to keep everyone, but this is the NFL and there has to be moves made for the greater good of the organization. We list the top five moves that if the Texans could re-do they would at least take a look at possibly not making these moves. *Also note that not all of these moves could have been done. The Moves 5. Trading Sherrick McManis for…
Texans Get Their Fullback
The Houston Texans have acquired fullback Tyler Clutts from the Chicago Bears in exchange for defensive back Sherrick McManis according to Houston Fox Sports, Mark Berman. The full details of the deal have not been released, but with the Texans waiving veteran Moran Norris this morning, there was an open position for a fullback on the roster. Clutts is a second year player from Fresno State and in 2011 he appeared in all 16 games for the Chicago Bears. He measures in at 6-2 and 260 lbs and looks like he will be called upon pretty quickly to fill the…
Training Camp: Making Impressions
On Day Three of the Houston Texans training camp, the shoulder pads and live contact took place at Reliant. After plenty of walk through work and no contact, that all quickly changed. Check out our camp notes from Day Three: – Head Coach Gary Kubiak pushed his team a little harder in day three with pads on and the Texas heat. It was evident which players were ready for this heat, and plenty of players got tired out there on Monday. – The offense came out with plenty of false starts especially from the young guys. Fullback Derrell Smith had some…
Training Camp: No Need to Panic
With Day Two morning session in the books, there was plenty of news out of Houston Texans camp, both good and bad. Here are some day 2 notes: – Wide receiver Andre Johnson was the headline of the day due to a “tweaked” groin, and being witness to it I can see where the concern would come from. We were about 10 yards from where he was trying to get stretched out by the trainers, to get going again for 1-on-1 drills with the defensive backs. Headed under the tent to see the head trainer, they ran a battery of tests on…
Texans that are on the Fringe
With training camp closing in, the Houston Texans will be faced with some tough decisions with their roster heading into week 1. I know this may be premature talk but the reality has to set in, NFL teams are always looking for the younger and cheaper options for their teams. Last season, the Texans were able to have rookies, both drafted and undrafted, make an impact on the season and fill in when necessary. Throw in some key in-season signings, the Texans were able to weather the storm when it came to injuries. This season the Texans have already lost 19 players from their 2011 team,…
Contract Talk: Jason Allen
In this series we are going to look at the potential free agents of the Houston Texans, and figure out if they work into the plans for the coming years…. On November 10, 2010 the Miami Dolphins released cornerback Jason Allen in favor of veteran cornerback Al Harris who was coming of a knee injury. Allen the 16th overall selection in 2006, drafted by Nick Saban, was one of the last Dolphins from the Saban regime. Houston at the time was looking for answers to help a floundering secondary in 2010 and picked him up off waivers.
The Most Frustrating Texans in 2011
The Houston Texans are at the crossroads of their season and the dubious most important game tag is coming out for this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. There is no doubt that the Texans have some solid talent on their roster, but consistency is the key to be successful in the NFL, which the Texans lack. The Texans collectively as a whole need to step their game up, but if a handful of Texans decide to step their game up it would make fans breathe easier. If they decide to step up it would bring more wins and a much-needed boost to…
Reed and Harris Called to the Forefront
The Houston Texans are at an important stretch to their season, and have to overcome some adversity, injuries, opponents and themselves. The Texans are sitting at 3-2 and tied on top of the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans, and being where they are now is almost what should be expected. With all of the injuries the Texans are going to lean on their other two top draft picks from the 2nd round, Brooks Reed (OLB) and Brandon Harris (CB). This will give the Texans their three top draft picks from the 2011 NFL Draft some increased playing…
