Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

DerekNewton

Here are some quick thoughts of this upcoming season, and we mean early thoughts on the Houston Texans.   Facts -T.J. Yates will have competition in camp this year pushing him to see if he could be the quarterback of this team. Yates will be on alert during draft time with rumors flying the Texans could be looking for a young quarterback to groom, if the opportunity presents itself. – Andre Johnson will finally get help and the wide receiver group will have a slight face lift going into the 2013 season, with the chance of three new wide receivers on the opening…

The Rundown: Texans vs. Saints

Glover-Qiun

The final preseason appearance for the majority of the Houston Texans starters saw the New Orleans Saints defeat the hometown team 34-27. The first half of football was action packed with plenty of offense and turnovers in which the turnovers actually proved to be the biggest disappointment for the Texans on Saturday night. The Texans stayed in their base defense the majority of the night and let the one on one match ups develop and give some real assessment of players. Offensively in the first half, the Texans were clicking on all cylinders and were very precise with their plays and use of the time clock. The up tempo pace of…

SOTT Talks to T.J. Yates

TJYates

If there is one Houston Texans’ player that we had to catch up to, it was quarterback T.J. Yates. One of the more beloved Texans to suit up, #13 won the respect of his teammates and Texans fans everywhere. After only leading the most important drive in team history and leading the team to their first ever playoff win, the 2011 season was a blur to Yates. The off-season was a breath of fresh air for Yates and we had a chance to talk about the off-season, the addition on John Beck and Case Keenum to the quarterback room, and his noticeable weight…

Texans Training Camp: Another Scare

Keshawn-Martin

Full pads were on for the 6th day of camp and the Houston Texans did receive a scare to one of their star players.     - Duane Brown, starting left tackle, got kicked on his left ankle when he got rolled up from behind. Brown played two plays after the incident but couldn’t continue. After evaluation they shut him down for the day and he headed in for an MRI. The MRI came back negative and was only deemed a bone bruise. He has been listed as day-to-day. Rashad Butler will fill in at the left tackle position until Brown comes back….

Training Camp: Making Impressions

TJYates

On Day Three of the Houston Texans training camp, the shoulder pads and live contact took place at Reliant. After plenty of walk through work and no contact, that all quickly changed.   Check out our camp notes from Day Three: – Head Coach Gary Kubiak pushed his team a little harder in day three with pads on and the Texas heat. It was evident which players were ready for this heat, and plenty of players got tired out there on Monday. – The offense came out with plenty of false starts especially from the young guys. Fullback Derrell Smith had some…

Texans Training Camp Primer: On Deck

Brandon Harris

This is Part Two of our Training Camp Preview which will be released throughout the week.     The Hidden Parts   The 2011 Houston Texans were all about the “Next Man Up” mantra and this season hopefully we will not have to relive that stressful time of being a fan. Entering this season, the Texans on paper have a pretty talented roster and it could prove to be a key piece in the run for the AFC South crown. Last season plenty of players received experience from the multitude of injuries and that should be a welcomed sight to a seasoned roster heading into…

Got That Fire: Texans OTAs

IMG_1820

Here are a few notes from Wednesday’s OTAs.   – Brian Cushing and Hebron Fangupo did not practice. The team is hoping Fangupo can return to practice next Monday. – Head Coach Gary Kubiak expects right tackle Rashad Butler to take a hold of the right tackle position despite competition from Derek Newton. Kubiak likes the fact that Butler has starter experience filling in at left tackle during the 2010 season. – Rookie guard Brandon Brooks has been working with the first team offense with Antoine Caldwell being sick the past few days. –  Gary Kubiak told the media that Matt Schaub is the starter for the…

Coach Speak: Texans OTAs

BrianCush

Here are some notes from Texans OTAs on Wednesday.   – Head Coach Gary Kubiak talked about standouts from today’s workouts and mentioned tight end Garrett Graham, wide receiver Trindon Holliday, safety Torri Williams, and outside linebacker Bryan Braman.  – Rookie wide receiver Keshawn Martin was called automatic by Kubiak when talking about his punt return abilities, but still feels he is over thinking his job on the field. – The race for the quarterback position is for T.J. Yates backup position, not starter Matt Schaub’s job. Kubiak is talking well of John Beck’s mental capacity of the Texans offense, and wants to work  with some…
