Texans First Cuts Announced

The Houston Texans have released their first cuts of the preseason and getting to the league mandated 75 by Monday. The biggest surprises with the current list is Brett Hartmann, Derrell Smith and Nick Mondek. Nick Mondek was drafted in the 6th round in the 2012 NFL draft and was considered a project coming into the season.  He never really impressed at any level to get to the second round of cuts. Derrell Smith, who was making a position change from linebacker to fullback, never got going with the offense. Here are some notes from Texans OTAs on Wednesday.   – Head Coach Gary Kubiak talked about standouts from today’s workouts and mentioned tight end Garrett Graham, wide receiver Trindon Holliday, safety Torri Williams, and outside linebacker Bryan Braman.  – Rookie wide receiver Keshawn Martin was called automatic by Kubiak when talking about his punt return abilities, but still feels he is over thinking his job on the field. – The race for the quarterback position is for T.J. Texans Promote One from the Practice Squad

To fill Dominique Barber’s position on the 53-man roster, the Houston Texans promoted rookie safety Shiloh Keo today. Keo is a 5th round draft pick in this years 2011 draft (144th overall) out of Idaho University.

When looking at the 2011 Houston Texans preseason roster, the Texans have a big group of players who have ties to the state of Texas. Either born or having went to college in the state, the Texans always seem to bring in homegrown talent and this years is no exception.
