Darryl Sharpton Activated; Nolan Waived
This week, the Houston Texans activated inside linebacker Darryl Sharpton from the Physically Unable to Perform List and released backup safety Troy Nolan. Sharpton has been injured since last season when he tore his quadricep against the Jacksonville Jaquars, and he is set to make his 2012 season debut this weekend against the team that prematurely ended last year’s season. Sharpton was originally on track to return at the beginning of Training Camp, however, he had a setback while in rehab with a hip issue. After a prolonged rehab, Sharpton finally returned to the practice field and was given full clearance this week….
Mid Season Report Card: Secondary
This is the section of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the secondary in this post and give our thoughts on the position group. The Secondary Johnathan Joseph: The biggest difference this season is that teams are not scared to throw at him and Joseph does give up plenty receptions. For a three week period, Joseph was giving up touchdowns and deep passes which is not Joseph like, call it a groin issue but it was concerning. Being the lock down corner and spoiled from last…
Bye Week Decisions for the Texans
The Houston Texans are coming off their much needed bye week and they are heading into their official halfway point of the season when they match up with the Buffalo Bills. The Texans have a few personnel issues they must deal with in the coming days to make sure the team is tightened up for the stretch run. At the current moment, the team has an active roster of 52 players with rookie defensive end David Hunter hitting the injured reserve last week. The good thing is that the Texans are not dealing with “huge” issues, but with depth at a…
Texans Waive John Beck
The Houston Texans have waived third string quarterback John Beck to clear room for the recent addition of safety Troy Nolan. Beck, who won a spot on the roster with his good play during the 2012 preseason, was an asset with his knowledge of the offense. The move comes as a bit of a surprise especially with the quarterback situation from last season and the injuries that happened to the position group. With Beck being waived, it leaves the Texans with two active quarterbacks (Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates) and one on the practice squad (Case Keenum). Beck was a 2nd round…
Texans Bring Back Troy Nolan
According to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, the Texans have brought back safety Troy Nolan to join the team. Nolan will take the place of recently injured safety Quintin Demps, who broke his forearm against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. In a surprise move, Nolan was waived after training camp in favor of Shiloh Keo and Demps, who are still on the team. He was soon claimed by the Miami Dolphins prior to week one, and has appeared in three games for the Dolphins in 2012, but only played three snaps all season. In 2011, Nolan served as the team’s third safety in dime situations, and late in…

In a surprise move the Texans have released safety Troy Nolan in a head scratching move and according to Tania Ganguli from the Houston Chronicle… #Texans announce they released FS Troy Nolan as their final cut. I’ve been told it took this long because they tried to trade him first. — Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) September 1, 2012 Also, the Texans released veteran fullback Moran Norris after bringing him in during the off-season to compete for the fullback position. The Rundown: Texans vs. Carolina
The first preseason game is in the books and the Houston Texans looked good on their opening game of the 2012 preseason. Despite some turnovers and red zone issues that should work themselves out, the Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13. It was a good start for the Texans even though the starters were limited and the reserves saw the majority of the playing time starting in the second quarter. Here are a few thoughts from the Preseason Opener. - Tim Dobbins (pictured above) was all over the field against the Panthers and played like the seasoned veteran he is. He was…
