Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

AntonioSmith

With the opening of free agency, we decided to look at the top 10 free agent signings in Houston Texans history. The list is short but filled with impact players who have done their part to make a difference when they were brought in to help the Texans.   Top 5 5. Bernard Pollard Signed off the scrap heap in 2009, Pollard came into the season in Houston and took matters into his own hands. In two seasons with the Texans he posted 212 total tackles and four interceptions on a very sub par defense. Pollard was a liability in coverage but…

Wade Smith, #74 Starting Left Guard

Walking into a room, you would never know the unassuming 6’4″ Wade Smith is a Pro Bowl-caliber professional football player. But the modest and reserved Smith offers a bright, welcoming smile and shakes hands with those in attendance at an autograph signing at Buffalo Wild Wings to benefit his charity, The Wade Smith Foundation. The 9-1 Houston Texans look to defeat the 4-6 Detroit Lions in a Thanksgiving Day Week 12 matchup.  The Lions are coming off a disappointing 24-20 home loss to their division rival Green Bay Packers while the AFC leading Texans are looking to extend their four game win streak.  This is the Texans first Thanksgiving Day game and only second ever trip to Detroit, a game they lost in 2004.  The Lions, on the other hand, play this game on an annual basis but haven’t won it in 9 years. Two big impact players with previous injuries that have a…

Mid Season Report Card: Offensive Line

IMG_1831

This is the start of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the offensive line in this post and give our thoughts on the position group.   The Offensive Line Grades     Duane Brown: He gave up his first sack of the season against the Buffalo Bills but he has been as good you can ask an NFL left tackle to be. He provides what the offensive line needs, a force in the run and pass blocking game. His athletic ability really shows when the Texans let him…

Calculated Free Agents Have Helped the Texans

ShaunCody

Teams are not built over night but being able to add the right pieces to an NFL team can make the difference in having a team with real depth. General Manager Rick Smith took some tough criticism with his moves running this organization but he has learned on the run and got this franchise going in the right direction. It takes the draft to build for the future, but it takes looking at the free agent pool to sign solid NFL talent. It is impressive looking at what Smith has been able to do with the free agents he has signed that are…

The Rundown: Texans vs. Dolphins

Flag10

The Houston Texans started the 2012 season in odd fashion and it took less than 2:03 of game time in the second quarter and turnovers for the Texans to down the Miami Dolphins. The day was highlighted by the Texans hanging their first banner from the rafters of Reliant.  That put a reminder of the magical 2011 season that fans will soon not forget. It took some time for the Texans to get warmed up and when they did they unleashed fury that resulted in four turnovers and 24 unanswered points in the blink of the eye. The Texans were far from…

Just like the majority of sports teams, the Texans look to be in their peak year to contend for the playoffs and beyond. As for some of the key players on the Texans, the window looks to be closing on a few careers as most NFL football players are retired by the age of 28.  Looking at the team, the reality that the end is coming…
