Texans Sign Stephen McGee
Today according to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, the Houston Texans signed free agent quarterback and former Texas A&M Aggie, Stephen McGee. The former backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, was a 4th round pick (101st overall) in the 2009 NFL draft, and was the back up his three seasons in Dallas. McGee was drafted by Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips out of college when he was the head coach of the Cowboys.
He started one game in his NFL career and appeared in only three games where he has thrown for 420 yards and three career touchdowns.
This signing looks like a camp arm with a possibility for fighting for a spot as a backup or practice squad quarterback. McGee is not being brought in to compete with starting quarterback Matt Schaub, but to bring in another quarterback to compete for a NFL job.
